Open access  can be defined as unrestricted online access to peer-reviewed scholarly research information. Open access is mainly proposed for scholarly research journals. Moreover, it allows for maximum visibility, uptake and use of the published material. Open Access publishing model provides immediate, worldwide, barrier-free access of research articles to global scientific world and also readers/ academicians are allowed to copy, reuse, distribute, transmit and display the work publicly.
In Open Access Publishing model, the publication costs are usually covered by the author’s institution or research funds. At the same time, authors who publish in Open Access journals retain the copyright of their article and the authors have right to make small number of printed copies for their personal use.
Through Open Access publication process, scientists/ researchers can avoid subscription fees, copyright and licensing restrictions to access free scholarly literature. Since Open Access publishing allows the permanent restoration of scientific data through digital copies, other than the constraint of Internet access, scientists around the world can freely share information and collaborate to enhance the growth of science.
